MILLIGAT
PUMPS
The milliGAT is a new generation pump for precision
fluid handling which will pump bi-directionally both
liquids and gases, or a combination of both. It
features a combination of performance capabilities
unmatched by any other commercial pump. In particular,
its remarkable flow range of over six orders of
magnitude, from nL/min to mL/min, and its capability
to precisely meter volumes as small as nanoliters,
make it suitable for many different fields of
application, including microfluidics, HTS, dispensing,
titrating, FIA, SIA, Zone Fluidics, diluting, and many
others. It maintains high precision across the range
of flow rates and metered volumes. The user can
sequence between nanoliters and milliliters with
simple pump commands.
Global FIA has two models of the milliGAT pump with
different flow ranges. The MG-LF has a flow range of 6
nL/min - 6 mL/min, and the MG-HF has a flow range of
60 nL/min - 50 mL/min. Specifications for the two
models are give below.
The milliGAT is an excellent replacement for
syringe pumps - it provides better performance and
eliminates the need for refill cycles and syringe
changes.
The milliGAT is stepper motor driven and fully
computer controllable. A micro-processor driven
controller controls flow rate, flow direction, metered
volumes, ramp rates, automatic backlash correction,
and other control parameters using serial commands via
RS-232 or RS 485 communication protocols.
The milliGAT was patented by Global FIA, and is
manufactured by VICI Valco, a company well known for
its precision analytical valves.
While the standard package includes software and
instructions to run the milliGAT as a stand-alone
unit, the pump can also be combined with other fluid
handling devices such as multi-position selection
valves with control from a single serial port.
Features of the MilliGAT include:
- Bi-directional pulseless flow
- Flow range from µL/min - mL/min
- Meter precise volumes from µL - mL
- No pulse dampeners
- No check valves
- No syringes to re-fill or exchange
- Chemically inert
- Self-priming
Operating Principle
At the core of the pump are four reciprocating
1/8" pistons housed in sapphire chambers. The
pistons are located in a rotor. As the motor turns the
rotor, the pistons float on a stationary cam; at any
given moment, one piston is filling, one is
dispensing, and the other two are in transit between
fill and dispense ports. The transition between each
piston is engineered to yield pulseless flow.
