WHAT'S
NEW
Process Stream Sampling Valve
Valco and Global FIA have developed a new multi-position
selection valve which has a unique flow-through port that can be
used for sampling process streams. The flow-through feature ensures
that the sample line is flushed out before sampling, presenting
a fresh sample at the sampling port. The remaining ports can be
used for normal SIA functions, which makes the valve ideal for on-line
process SIA.
The accompanying diagram illustrates the three possible
actions that this new valve accommodates.

Position A:
The sample stream flows under process pressure or propelled by a
pump through the sample port (2) in a by-pass position sending flushed
sample to waste. During this stage, the sample line is refreshed.
In this position, the selected port (1) is simultaneously being
used for an SIA function, and the red line describes the flow path
to the holding coil (HC).
Position B:
The sample port (2) is selected, and the fresh sample is drawn into
the SI manifold, and is carried via the blue line to the HC.
Position C:
One of the other 8 ports is selected; these ports allow for sample,
reagents, and other SIA manifold devices to be connected to the
HC. The green line illustrates one example of this. This valve is
for use in process analyzers where the sample port is coupled to
a sampling system fast loop and provides fresh sample to a SIA analyzer.
Other versions of the valve are available with additional flushed
sample ports for multi-stream sampling.
